Today at work

I managed to convince a sobbing 8 year old that she was smart and that the word “llama” messes everyone up. I told her that since I was older than her, I had more wisdom and knew what I was talking about: I waited until she looked in my eyes, and then I simply said, “You are smart.” After walking her through the pronunciation of “llama,” I  told her to do two problems on her own, and that it was OK to ask for help (I reassured her that I wouldn’t think she was stupid, because we both knew that she was smart). She didn’t need any help and was fine and happy for the rest of our hour together.
